Students in 3rd grade have been enjoying watching the life cycle of the Paint Lady butterfly. The baby caterpillars arrived around the 13th. Students have been able to help the caterpillars grow by 'adopting' them and providing their basic needs. We studied the habitat, needs, and parts of the caterpillar. Just this past week, our caterpillars made their signature "J" shape with their silk button at the top of their cups and became chrysalises! Since then, we've observed their quiet lives until today when they started to emerge. It's a magical process! Please enjoy some pictures of our chrysalis transfer from their individual cups into the butterfly hatching box. Some of them were really "partying" (shaking because of the metamorphosis happening inside!).
