Butterflies!!

Butterflies have been the highlight in our classroom over the past week! I love seeing the wonder in the students' eyes every morning as they come in to observe how much their caterpillars have changed in a matter of a day. Each 3rd grader has had the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of a butterfly up close and personal as they watch their caterpillar in their own small container. Today we discussed the needs of our caterpillar, their body parts, their molting process, and why they are spinning silk. Our caterpillars go through metamorphosis soon to the chrysalis stage. Eventually, they'll then become beautiful painted ladies butterflies like the picture above!
