Good things going on in 3T!

I was happy to see everyone back today for our first full week of school! I was impressed with everyone's hard work today as we added English and Spelling to our schedule.

*In spelling, we did a sorting of our words by short vowels. Don't forget our practice test is on Wed.!

* We did a scavenger hunt of our English book to familiarize ourselves with the text. Then, we began learning about sentences.

* We're doubling up on reading! This week, we're reading our first story in our reading textbook, "Lost and Found." In addition, students have been doing an awesome job of learning about how to best independent read. Today, we learned about why a reader would abandon a book and reviewed how we "think while we read" (this is why we need post-it notes as additional supplies!). After independent reading time, we started logging individual reading in our book log. Soon, we'll be adding this log to our full reading response journal. While students are independentally reading, I've begun assessing students individually on their oral reading and comprehension.

* In math, we got to use our "secret code cards" and learn about e-x-p-a-n-d-i-n-g numbers. (for example, 600 + 70 + 1 = 671). The new student math boards are great!

* Our journal writing is also in full swing. I'm really enjoying learning about each student by reading their responses.

Tomorrow, we'll start Science and Social Studies.

Keep up the great work, 3rd graders! :)
