"just like magic"

We've been watching for the signs and now it's happening! Our Painted Ladies are hatching!! It's an amazing process to watch occur. It only takes less than a minute for the butterflies to emerge and then 2-3 hours for their wings to dry before they are ready to fly!
After a few hours, I transfer them to our hanging net in our classroom. I couple were almost too smart for the net and tried to escape. But, I think the problem has been remedied! The first batch of chrysalises hatched Thursday and Friday. This weekend, I went in to transfer some more that emerged. And, I think by Monday or Tuesday, they should all be butterflies!
Our butterflies love sweet things...like fruit! So, if you're child would like to bring some in, we can add it to the net. In science this week, we'll be observing and studying more about butterflies before we release them into their natural habitat!
